Tornado Jr. B's Ready To Go For The 2005 Season Barrie - The Barrie Tornado Jr. B Lacrosse Club came together this past Monday for a team dinner at Philthy McNasty's Downtown Barrie location. With 10 players returning, Head Coach Doug Taylor will be back for his 3rd season behind the Tornado bench. Joining Taylor for his second season on the Tornado Jr. staff is Luke Ringler. Ringler, Tornado Jr. Captain back in 2000 will have the added responsibilities of Director of Player Personnel. Ringler will also guide the Barrie SS Tornado Midget A team as well as continue his duties as the Barrie South Simcoe Minor Lacrosse Association's Head Coach. “His commitment and dedication to excellence is extraordinary” commented Mike Kloepfer - Tornado President and General Manager. The other Asst. Coach from last year was Kenny Hamilton. Hamilton, the Tornado Captain in 2002 and 2003 was forced to sit out the 2004 Lakeshore SR. B playing season as he recovered from reconstructive shoulder surgery. Hamilton is busy preparing for the 2005 Lakeshores MSL Training Camp and will support the Tornado Jr. Program when his playing situation permits. “With Taylor and Ringler, the organization continues to have the guidance needed to floor a successful program and put our team in the hunt for a Championship” said Kloepfer. Taylor is looking forward to building towards that Championship season and likes what he sees. “We have a very good mix of experience and youth”, Taylor commented at the dinner. Among the returning veterans will be Brad Trottier, Troy Heaselgrave and Mike Bradshaw. All three players will be counted on to be team leaders as they are impact players and can play in every situation. Their desire and experience will be needed to achieve the teams aggressive goals. Second year players like Shawn Beer, Rick Acorn, Graham Schapers, Matt Saban and Daniel Ball will be looked to for breakout years. Beer returns to follow up on his impressive freshman scoring performance that saw him take home "Tornado Rookie of the Year" honours. Acorn who was lost to injury all of last year when he broke his ankle 2 days before the 2004 season opener will be counted on heavily as well. “Rick will be a key member of our offence and we look to him to help us contend for an Ontario Championship this season,” said Taylor. The team begins its pre-season conditioning sessions Tuesday nights at the Georgian College Athletic Center on March 1st. Please refer to www.tornadolacrosse.com for further details.
